Unawatuna Beach- Sun, Sand and Crystal Clear Water

by Threat to Democracy

Located just 4 kilometres south of the coastal city of Galle, this amazing stretch of beach is ranked amongst the top twelve beaches in the world. The palm-fringed sandy beaches and inviting cerulean waters has captured the hearts of many. The main captivating feature, apart from the beach and the blue waters, is its virgin atmosphere. The seaside can be described as under-developed and therefore offers its visitors a true paradise of unexplored recourses and serene atmosphere.

The other unique feature about this stretch of coastline is the reef which surrounds the waters. This plus the clear shallow waters makes Unawatuna popular amongst sea bathers and swimmers as this makes bathing in the area safe and also offers a marvellous diving experience. Keen scuba divers are treated with the well preserved coral reef and for further explorations the area boasts a couple of wrecks which can be easily reached via a 30 minute boat ride.

Unawatuna is not just about swimming, diving and basking in the sun, the locale also popular for its historic value. Apparently the rocky projection to the sea at Unawatuna, which is known as Rummassala, has been connected to the legend of Ramayana. And as the story goes, this bit the outcrop was what fell when Lord Hanuman was transporting a mountain full of medicinal herbs to treat the wounded brother of Rama, Laxamana.

Unawatuna and the city of Galle also feature some of the most beautiful buildings from the Dutch era adding to the attractiveness of the area. Visitors can explore the old city of Galle located in the Fort where most of the old houses have been converted to little shops and eateries. The area is also dotted with various little coffee houses and pubs.

Travellers keen on exploring this amazing southern coast of Sri Lanka will find that there is a range of lodging options to choose from. Almost any Galle hotel can be booked online. In Galle, Sri Lanka, hotels feature modern amenities and offer all its guests the warm hospitality the country is known for. For easy access to the beach and the rest of the treasures of Galle try the Jetwing Lighthouse.

Crystal Figurines Make Great Valentine’s Gifts

Posted on 21st October 2011 in Crystals
crystal gifts
by circulating

It’s easy to get stuck in the same old gift selection when Valentine’s Day rolls around. Men have a tendency to rely on the usual gift of roses, candy, heart shaped jewelry or cutesy cherub pins. After a few years, that can get pretty boring to that special someone.

Think outside the box, or in this case, outside the traditional gift zone. Give him or her a crystal figurine. After all, crystal is a valuable product that is pleasing to the eye and enjoyed and appreciated by both men and women. Select the right crystal figurine and you’ll be amazed at the reaction when you give the gift.

Selecting the right crystal animal figurine isn’t that difficult. Most people have hobbies or special areas of interest or are fond of collecting something. Find a crystal animal that fits into one of those categories. A friend collects anything that has to do with cows. Things like pitchers, vases, ceramics and figurines are all items in her collection. Give her a crystal cow.

If that special someone is a pet or animal lover, consider giving a crystal dog or crystal cat. There are crystal animals available for just about any species of animal you want.

The important thing is the crystal animal must be meaningful to the person receiving it.

A fondness for a pet or animal is the key element here.

Crystal animals can be easily found on the internet, in local gift shops, card stores, second hand shops and privately owned pharmacies that carry gifts. The challenge is not where to find the crystal gift. It’s which crystal animal touches the heartstrings and brings joy to that special someone on Valentine’s Day.

How to choose an appropriate crystal?

Posted on 17th October 2011 in Crystals
crystals
by Cheddarcheez

Crystals can help us with certain aspects of our lives. People have used green stones to help attract financial prosperity.

In generally, People use crystals in some ways as follows:

They have been used in industry for decades (as many minerals have been). Many people have used crystals as healing tools. They can be carried in ones pocket, placed on the body as a stone layout, or used in an elixir. (Not all minerals are safe to make elixirs out of.) Healing crystals are given as gifts to people who are ill. People also use healing crystals for protection or to bring prosperity to ones life. Many people like crystals strictly for their beauty and use them as decorative stones. Some use crystals in Feng Shui, especially in China.  Others are staunch collectors of fine or rare crystal specimens. And some buy fine crystals as investments.

For just about any aspect of your life that you want to heal, or enhance, there is probably a stone that can help. What if you are looking for a stone to help with a physical ailment? Here are some basic guidelines to help you choose a crystal or mineral to help with a particular health issue.

Crystals have been used in healing for centuries. From a simple headache cure to a strengthening elixir, crystals can bring harmony, health, balance and even prosperity. Different crystals have different energies, and come in all shapes and sizes, which can be confusing when trying to choose crystals for the first time.

Spending time browsing a well stocked, friendly crystal retailer is the first step in finding appropriate crystals to use.

Crystal Energy

The best way to decide whether a crystal is right for you is to “feel” its energy. Hold the crystal in your energy receptive hand (usually the left) and take note of how the crystal makes you feel. Do you feel a pleasant tingling sensation? Does the energy feel light and happy, or dense and unpleasant? Pick crystals that feel right for you and give off high vibration energy.

Use Your Intuition

A crystal that is meant for you will often make itself known, perhaps by catching your eye above all the others, or giving you a sense of “knowing” when you hold it. If you find yourself in a crystal store or at a crystal fair, you may find yourself surrounded by numerous crystal choices. How do you choose just the right stone? The first, and best, thing you can do is to allow your body and your inner knowing to guide you to the perfect stone. Just walk around and see what you are attracted to. If you are looking on the Internet, you can use the same process. Look through the various pages of crystal and minerals and see what catches your eye. Usually what you are drawn to is what you need. Then you need to trust what your intuition is telling you, and sometimes that is the hardest part. But trust yourself, you know what you need.

But what if your intuition is attracted to a stone, but your eyes find it less than appealing? Your body may be drawn to the particular mineral that stone is made of. Perhaps there is another piece of that same mineral that you will like better. For example, say you find yourself attracted to citrine (yellow/golden quartz) but you aren’t 100% happy with the particular stone you first picked up. It may be too big, too small, out of your price range or maybe you just don’t like the way it looks. You can look for other crystals that are citrine. Or maybe citrine in a different form, like a tumbled stone would be more appealing. Perhaps a pyramid shape, or a sphere would work. Sometimes our bodies need a particular mineral (like citrine) in whatever form, so looking through different forms of the same mineral is OK. And sometimes we are called to work with one particular stone or crystal, no matter what. You just can’t seem to take your eyes off it. Or you can’t put it down. Then you need to trust that is the stone for you.

What is the Purpose of Your Crystal?

The way in which you intend to use your crystal will have bearing on the type and shape of crystal you buy. Here are a few starting points.

Crystal Shapes

Crystals come in many forms. Pick according to what you want to use the crystal for. Use a small tumble stone if you are going to be putting the crystal on the forehead or carrying it around with you. For focused healing, choose a larger crystal with a point. If the crystal is going to be held a lot, a palm stone shape might be most suitable.

Crystals in Chakra Healing

If you are using the crystals to balance the chakras, then color is important. Each chakra is represented by a particular color and crystals are chosen accordingly – red for the base chakra, orange for the sacral chakra, yellow for the solar plexus chakra, green for the heart chakra, blue for the throat chakra, indigo for the third-eye chakra, and white or purple for the crown chakra.

The Properties of Crystals

If you wish to use the crystal for a specific healing purpose, then you will need to research the properties of different crystals. Invest in (or loan) a good encyclopedia of crystals, which contains clear pictures and lists the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual properties of each stone. Crystals each have different energies, which can help heal on different levels. Most will have multiple uses, and can range from cures for headaches, arthritis, procrastination or depression, to insomnia, lack of abundance, or attuning to the higher realms of Spirit.

Crystals in the Home

Crystals can also be placed around the home, to increase vibration frequency and clear away negative energy. For this purpose, you would need to buy larger stones, possibly in their rougher, natural form. Again, research the different properties and make your selection accordingly.

Always remember, however, that alternative therapies such as crystal healing are not a substitute for proper medical care in the case of serious illness or injury.

Bodenmais: the Crystal Capital of Germany

Posted on 19th September 2011 in Crystals

by Sandy Austin

Attracting droves of tourists every year, Europe promises the ancient, the diverse, and the completely fascinating. Most travelers scurry past the major sites and cram in as much as possible in order to get through a list of ‘must sees.’

Unfortunately, much is overlooked due to lack of time and money while the infinite unique treasures sometimes hidden for the resourceful traveler remain undiscovered and unappreciated. Not that visits to the key attractions should be dissuaded! On the contrary, I’m simply inviting the European travelers to dig a little deeper into their destination country and find the gems that will make them smile as they recall them even decades later.

Remember and celebrate the taste of a fresh German pretzel, the sweet smell of the air in a Tuscan vineyard, or the baby soft petals in a colorful field of Dutch tulips. Savor an entire spectrum of sensory bliss as you skip from one country to the next, searching for that tiny unique detail that you will fondly relish for the rest of your life.

When pondering European crystal, the Czech Republic or Austria normally comes to mind. Germany, however, holds its own when it comes to the crystal and glass market. Its sleepy town of Bodenmais, near the German/Czech border, snuggles in among the surrounding Bavarian Forest and promises more than just delightfully sparkling treasures.

Scenery fit for a postcard, Bodenmais is as breathtaking as it is full of fun. The little village, which traces its history as far back as 1300, is chock full of crystal and glass shops along its quiet streets. The Joska factory is the highlight – an enormous complex of shops for watching demonstrations, blowing your own glass, savoring a delicious meal, and of course – purchasing exquisite crystal. Joska has a family-friendly atmosphere about it – little hands and feet can explore its Kinderland.

Full of activities, education, and a grand playground, children play safe while the crystal lovers of the family enjoy the delicate wares that the factory has to offer. Not ending its premium customer service at the checkout counter, Joska packs its customer’s finds in cushioning packing paper and study boxes and will even ship internationally, if needed.

There are plenty of other activities in Bodenmais besides those involving glass. What’s crystal without candles to heighten the ambiance? Joska stocks a selection and there are several candle outlets throughout the town. Or handmade wood accents for the home? Bodenmais is home to talented craftsmen. Shopped out? Cross-country skiing is avidly enjoyed in the countryside of Bodenmais.

Stores offer ski rentals for visitors before skiing and more offer hearty meals after enjoying the sport. For a more relaxing experience, explore the Silberburg (Silver Mountain). The mines are not only interesting but provide special therapeutic results to those suffering from respiratory disorders. A myriad of other recommendations can also come from one of many friendly families that run the adorable mountainside bed-and-breakfast homes throughout the town.

Full of dazzling crystal, Bodenmais welcomes both local and international visitors to its quaint paradise. Whether in a ‘shop-til-you-drop’ or ‘just let me relax’ mood, Bodenmais beckons you to just breath in the crisp alpine air and enjoy all that awaits.
